Trend #1: It's all about you.

This phrase often comes with a negative connotation, but when it comes to travel and vacation planning it is nothing but beneficial. After all, it is all about you. It's your vacation! You want it to be the best it can be. That's why customizing your vacation to fit your needs and desires is so very important. It's important to the travel industry, too. They want your business and they want you to have a great travel experience for two reasons: They want you to come back again and they want you to spread a good word to your friends, family and acquaintances.

One of the best ways to customize your vacation is to choose a vacation rental over a hotel. Though hotels are jumping on the customization and personalization band wagon too, you'll have far more choices in this area with a vacation rental including location, size and style of the accommodation, and most importantly the amenities that matter to you. Consider a vacation rental for your next vacation!

Trend #2: Making it special.

We devoted a previous blog post exclusively on this topic, but it's worth mentioning again. Celebration vacations are big these days. Marking a special milestone, achievement or special occasion are reasons to travel. It makes a great gift and makes it a really memorable way to celebrate. Popular celebration vacations include baby moons, anniversaries, birthdays, retirements, engagements and graduations to name a few.

Early planning is a must for a celebration vacation. You want to prepare in advance, particularly if you're inviting others to join you at your travel destination. They need time to time to plan accordingly and so do you. Decide where you want to celebrate, when you want to be there, block off the dates on your calendar, discuss it with the parties involved, reserve your accommodation, and research things to do during your time away. Once those key steps are in place, you are well on your way to a celebrating a very special occasion in style.

Trend #3: Road trips rule.

Lower gas prices make the possibility of a road trip more enticing, particularly for families with children. Plan your epic adventure, load up the car and head off into the sunset. The possibilities are endless when it comes to road trip destinations (may we suggest Topsail Island, North Carolina?), but it really depends on what you want and how you want to spend your time. Road trips give you more control when it comes to travel. Stop when you need to, veer off of your travel itinerary if you want to and enjoy the ride.
