How to Make Topsail Island Iced Tea in 3 Easy Steps
Posted On Monday, August 29, 2016
We bet you didn't know that there is a signature cocktail called Topsail Island Iced Tea. Well, there is! This one is for the over-21 crowd only, though. It packs a punch and goes down easy (a little too easy, so be careful). This local twist on the well-known classic Long Island Iced Tea is perfect for any celebration, party, picnic or any time you want a taste of the South.
So what's in a Topsail Island Iced Tea and how do you make it? We're glad you asked. Here's what you need to know along with a recipe card at the end of the blog. We'd like to thank Our State magazine for this fabulous recipe.
As you can see, it's as easy as 1, 2, 3. Cheers!
1. Gather your ingredients. As you may or may not already know, this cocktail does not contain sweet tea. However, the perfect blend of ingredients sure does fool you into thinking it is exactly that. Just be careful since it contains five types of alcohol, which are masked by the sweet and tart flavors of the other ingredients.
Since this is a North Carolina version of this popular adult beverage, we're using two NC-based alcohols: TOPO Distillery vodka and Muddy River Distillery rum. Oh yeah! Good stuff. The remaining alcohols can be the brand of your choice. You'll need tequila, gin and triple sec along with a splash of Pepsi and lemon juice. A lemon slice and maraschino cherry are garnishes.
2. Get your cocktail shaker and ice.As with any iced tea, you'll want this one to be nice and cold. You'll need a cocktail shaker filled with ice before you pour in all of your liquid ingredients into a chilled glass (except for the Pepsi, which you pour onto the top at the end).
3. Shake, pour & garnish.Once all of your ingredients are in there, shake vigorously then pour into a nicely chilled glass. Top with a splash or two of Pepsi and add your garnishes. Voilą! You have your Topsail Island Iced Tea. Sip and enjoy!
